Quilt #22 - made for sweet baby Jane. It has 95 different fabrics - all scraps from other quilts I have made. There is even fabrics in it from Jane's sister's quilt I made two years ago.

My offer still stands - anyone who gets knocked up gets a free baby quilt! Any takers?

Congratulations to K!

In case you hadn't heard yet, K was offered a job today as an assistant director for a math and sciences tutoring program at UCSD!! That's right, she's joining the machine of academics and university bureaucracy that's been the bane of our existence for close to a decade...and we couldn't be happier!

As best I understand it, she'll be responsible for organizing, managing and teaching undergraduate tutor sessions. She'll be the boss of several tutors (instead of just me and the critters) and she won't have to do any pipetting!

So please be sure to congratulate her on joining the real working world (unlike those of us who are still stuck at the bench) and drink a toast to K and to the 9-5!

For those of you who have not heard me speak the praises of PBS here is the deal - people will send you free books! When another member requests one of your books, you mail it to them. You pay the postage ($1.59-$2.07), but then another member returns the favor when you request a book and they mail it to you. The books are always free because all club members are willing to trade their books with other members. No fees. No gimmicks. No spam. No advertising. No kidding.

It’s like Christmas in a mailbox! In the past six months I've recieved 56 books for free. It is awesome, but I'm sure my postman doesn't like lugging all those books around.

Good Riddance

The ugly Southwestern couch has moved on to a new life…as a fraternity porch couch! Two nice young men picked it up on Friday. I think that it will be very happy in its new home.

Our House

At the end of May we are packing & moving to San Diego. There is a lot to do: Dave has to finish a paper, I have to write a thesis and we have to pack up the house. So I thought this would be a great time to start a blog.

We were in San Diego this past weekend & found a great house in an awesome area. It has a real front porch with benches for drinking beer & watching the world pass by. And pass by it will, because the house is at the end of a cul-de-sac (it backs to a canyon) and just outside our door there is a foot/bike bridge to transport people from the neighborhood to the shopping district (with a Trader Joe’s, bars, restaurants, bookstores & farmer's markets).

We have two back decks - one that looks over the canyon (the canyon does have a road in it, but they all do in CA) and one in the huge backyard. There is a built-in gas grill in the backyard deck. Did you notice the 1930’s glass cabinet in the living room that will be perfect for D’s shot glass collection?
