The Rim Campsite is gone....


PROMONTORY FIRE (4,044 acres; 90% contained) started Sunday above the Mogollon Rim near Promontory Lookout Tower on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests and burned south over the Rim into Tonto National Forest. Evacuated residents have returned to their homes. Crews continue mopping up and patrolling the fireline. Tony Sciacca's Central-West Arizona Type 2 Incident Management Team is assigned to the fire, also 3 Type 1 (interagency hotshot) crews, 2 Type 2 crews, 2 helicopters, 7 engines, 1 dozer, 10 water tenders, 160 overhead, 5 camp crews, 311 total personnel.

that bites! i saw the news about the fire last week and thought about the campsite.
I tried to go last Fall and lightning kept us away. Guess we won't be going there for a long time.
The sad (and maddening) thing about this first fire of the season is that it was human-caused.
That really sucks. I haven't been there in a long time, but imagined going back some day.
This makes me very sad. I remember shooting the potato gun and being so 'altered' that I fell on a cactus just right about where the flames are.
